Swiss National Anthem Controversy Flares Up Again

The old, patriotic Swiss National Anthem (“Rufst Du Mein Vaterland”, set to the music of “God Save the Queen” (!) was officially replaced by the “Schweizerpsalm” (“Trittst Im Morgenrot daher…”) in 1981. But now there is increasing resistance to this “new” anthem as well because the lyrics (constituting a straight-forward Christian prayer), were written in 1841 and are no longer considered to be very relevant or appealing in the modern day.
