Anton Sidler
Age 74, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his closest family and loved ones after a courageous 9 year battle with cancer.
Anton was born and raised in Switzerland, moved to Canada as a young man where he met his beloved wife, Gerda, who was from Holland. Together they lived and worked in the Bahamas and Florida before moving to Wilmington, DE in 1976. After 16 years of marriage, their daughter, Jessica, was born in 1982.
Anton worked at the Hotel DuPont, Franklin Plaza Hotel, Shop Rite, and Super G as an award winning baker and pastry chef. He often referred to himself as the “sweetest man in town.” He was an active member of the First State Chefs Association, New Helvetic Society and Trinity Presbyterian Church. In 2006, he was awarded the President’s Award for Distinguished Service from the Delaware Valley Chefs Association.
Anton is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gerda “Kelly” Sidler, daughter, Dr. Jessica Sidler Folsom (Matthew); grandson, William Folsom; brothers, Beat and Hansrudi Sidler and their families; and several adopted American family members and friends. A memorial service will be 11:00 am, Monday, November 23, 2015 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1120 Darley Road, Wilmington, DE 19810. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713 or Trinity Presbyterian Church.
